“According to the estimates of the border service, in accordance with the current legal framework, the construction of the fence may take about two years,” the statement says.
According to the agency, the head of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, Rustamas Lyubayevas, presented the concept of installing a physical fence on the border with Belarus. According to him, the project has been prepared taking into account world practice.
“It will consist of two main elements: the first element – concertina, it will be installed on the line of the wall, next to it there will be a protective fence. It will be a metal fence four meters high with Y-shaped tops, on which the concertina will be additionally installed. And further, other infrastructure elements will be introduced. Some are already there, for example, a control strip, surveillance cameras”, – said Lyubaevas.
The head of the border service added that they would not lay the foundation. According to him, there will be only concrete posts, and part of this fence will be buried in the ground.
“The budget of such a project could be 152 million euros. We are talking about the installation of a physical barrier on a site of 508 kilometers. Let me remind you that the length of the border with Belarus is 670 kilometers, but this physical obstacle will not be everywhere due to the peculiarities of the landscape,” Sputnik cites Lyubaevas’ words.
The head of the border service suggested that the fence could be given a special status as an important state facility.
