Athlete Kristina Timanovska refused to comply with the requirement of the coaching staff of the Belarusian team at the Olympics in Tokyo to return home. This was announced by the IOC representative Mark Adams
Adams said he did not yet know how long the investigation might take. The IOC is now awaiting clarification from the National Olympic Committee of Belarus on Tuesday.
“We have decided to launch an official investigation. We need to establish all the facts. We need to listen to everyone involved”, – he told reporters.
Kristina Timanovska is 24 years old. She has been playing for the national athletics team since 2015. In 2019 she won gold at the Universiade in Naples in the 200 metres and silver in the 100 metres at the European Games in Minsk.
Sports.ru co-founder Dmitry Navosha also described Timanovska as the national team leader in her discipline:
“Not a world star, but a confident leader in her discipline in Belarus, a member of the national team since she was 18 and a winner of the Universiade. She is only 24 and she still has a long way to go. I hope this will not be her last Olympics.”
