US: Nuclear race threatens humanity with uncontrollable military conflict

Kingston Reif, director of disarmament and threat reduction policy at the Arms Control Association (USA), has described the dangers for mankind of a nuclear race between superpowers, The Sun reports

Reif said there is currently no arms race similar to the one during the Cold War, when the USSR and the US produced tens of thousands of atomic weapons.

“We are seeing a new round of serious competition in nuclear power. If we don’t take steps to prevent it, it could become bigger and more dangerous in the coming years”, –  Reif said.

He concluded that if nuclear competition among major powers does resume, it will pose a major security risk to the United States, its allies and many other countries around the world.
