Russia increases troops and equipment on border with Afghanistan

Russia has increased the number of its military contingent to 1,800 for joint trilateral exercises involving Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, which will take place 20 km from the border with Afghanistan

This was reported today, August 2, by the press service of the Central Military District (CMD) of the Russian Federation.

The exercise will be held from August 5 to 10 in Tajikistan at the Kharb-Maidon training ground.

“In accordance with the decision of Colonel General Alexander Lapin, commander of the troops of the Central Military District, the strength of the Russian military contingent for participation in the joint exercise of units of the armed forces of Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan has been increased. The number of personnel has been increased to 1.8 thousand soldiers and the number of military and special equipment, involved in joint exercises, has doubled to 420 units”, –  the military office said.

They added that a total of over 2,500 servicemen and about 500 units of weapons and military equipment will be involved in joint practical actions from Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
