Germany has not appreciated German Chancellor candidate Armin Lachet’s desire to punish Russia with sanctions if it “threatens” Ukraine.
Social media users commented on Lachet’s statement and advised him to pay attention to his own country.
The residents of Germany wondered what Ukraine has to do with it at all. They believe that Berlin should not pay attention to the problems of a third country at all. At the same time Germans are very concerned about relations with Russia.
“What exactly does Mr Lachet want? Does he want to ban the Russians from pursuing their interests?”, – – wrote one user.
Many noted that if Germany is so concerned about Ukraine’s sovereignty, why isn’t it itself particularly concerned about the issue:
“In that case, Ukraine should sovereignly take over the energy supply. Then it would stop depending on Russia and everyone would be happy, right?”
Lachet earlier said that Ukraine’s security should be one of Germany’s foreign policy priorities. He said he was ready to impose sanctions against Russia if Nord Stream 2 pressured Ukraine in any way.
