Azerbaijan reports shelling on border with Armenia

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has reported shelling of the positions of the Armed Forces of the republic from the territory of Armenia on the Nakhchivan direction of the state border of the two countries

“On August 1 at about 03:45, the units of Armenian Armed Forces from the positions near the village of Arazdeyen of Vedi district shelled the positions of Azerbaijani army in the direction of Heydarabad settlement of Sadarak district of Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic with small arms of different caliber”, –  the defense ministry reported.

It is also noted that “the enemy was suppressed by return fire,” and at present “the situation in the specified direction is stable, the operational situation is controlled by units of Azerbaijani troops.”

The situation on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia escalated on May 12, when the Armenian Ministry of Defence accused the Azerbaijani armed forces of carrying out “certain works” in one of the borderline regions of Syunik Province in order to “adjust the border.
