Russia will raise the issue of what is happening in the republic in specialized international structures, the department noted.
According to TASS, a comment by the Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Bikantov, circulated on Saturday, says that the case against the Lithuanian opposition politician Algirdas Paleckis is fabricated and politicized.
“This criminal case was initially fabricated and politicized. It is another example of the use of punitive justice by Vilnius against those who have a view of history different from the official authorities”, Bikantov said.
The department pointed out that Paleckis had already been prosecuted in 2011 for free expression of his opinion in the framework of his journalistic investigation of the events of January 13, 1991 at the Vilnius TV Tower.
“It is obvious that his study of this topic, as well as his statements that go against the line of official Vilnius in favor of normal good-neighborly relations with Russia, caused the Lithuanian authorities to have a new attack of aggression against free-thinking and a desire to take revenge on this brave man, a true patriot of his country”, – stressed Bikantov, adding that the politician was sentenced to six years in prison without any convincing evidence of his guilt.
“The issue of the illegal trial of Algirdas Paleckis, along with other facts of lawlessness in Lithuania, will continue to be discussed in specialized international organizations”.
