Blinken threatens with secondary sanctions to those who supply the Cuban Interior Ministry and police

The United States is ready to introduce unilateral restrictions against those who will carry out supplies to the Interior Ministry, the police, and Cuban individuals who are already subject to US sanctions.

This is stated in the statement released on Friday by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

“We clearly state that anyone who supplies the Cuban Police Force, the [Ministry of Internal Affairs] Special Forces, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, any other individual or entity [sanctioned] under the Magnitsky Global Human Rights Act may face with the risk of sanctions. We will continue to take steps to hold accountable for human rights violations by the Cuban government”, Blinken said.

The US Treasury has previously added to its sanctions lists the Cuban police, the head of this service, Oscar Callejas Valkarse, and his first deputy, Eddie Sierra Arias. On July 22, the US administration imposed sanctions against the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, Alvaro López Miera, and the special forces of the country’s Interior Ministry.
