Leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund Igor Yushkov, in an interview with Radio Sputnik, commented on the rise in gas prices in Europe and told what caused it.
The problem is that all liquefied natural gas (LNG) suppliers send their gas carriers to Asia, where fuel is even more expensive than in Europe. This creates a shortage and an increase in gas prices.
“Due to high prices, Europeans are behaving economically, but recklessly. Companies are afraid to buy gas at current prices to be pumped into storage facilities for the winter – you never know the prices will go down, and you have already bought it”, the expert noted.
Yushkov added that many suppliers are already selling last year’s gas. The only thing that can rectify the situation is the supply of Russian gas. Thus, the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could save Europe from cosmic fuel prices.
Earlier it became known that a historical record was set at the key TTF hub in the Netherlands – the price per thousand cubic meters reached $ 484.
