Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu are making the common mistake of striving for the West
This was stated by Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Analysis and Policy Management.
“Both aim to integrate their countries into Euro-Atlantic structures (in which, by the way, neither Moldova nor Ukraine are yet expected) and, accordingly, to reduce Russian influence in the post-Soviet space. But just now, when the political situation in the U.S. shows signs of instability, to make strong and unambiguous statements to both, as they say, is not in hand”, – he said in a conversation with the publication Sputnik.
The expert noted that Zelensky and Sandu deliberately avoid the topic of Crimea. They will not talk about the peninsula and its status without a wink from Washington.
The Ukrainian and Moldovan presidents talked about this personally. They have even discussed the possibility of joint pressure on Russia in the Transnistrian and Donbass issues. However, they will not dare to act openly without the permission of the West.
