US imposes sanctions on Syrian intelligence

Washington has decided to impose new restrictive measures against Syria. The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against officials and organisations

The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced its decision in a statement on the agency’s official website.

Several Syrian military intelligence units fell under the new sanctions. The restrictive measures affected eight people. Six of them are Syrian nationals. Most of them are intelligence officers.

The US is not going to withdraw its military contingent from Syria. There are about 900 American servicemen there.
