Five more countries have joined the Council of the European Union’s sanctions against Russia. The reason is the return of Crimea to the Russian Federation, which Brussels calls “annexation”
The EU Council website says Ukraine, Georgia, Macedonia, Albania and Norway are among the states that have backed the restrictive measures.
“Candidate countries Macedonia and Albania, EFTA country Norway, which is a member of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine and Georgia join this Council decision”, – the statement said.
The decision to extend the sanctions was taken on 21 June. They will remain in force until 23 June 2022. The measures concern targeted imports to Europe of products that are produced in Crimea, infrastructure and financial investments, and tourism.
