White House talks about changing US role in Iraq

White House press secretary Jen Psaki has announced that the US military command has decided to change its role in Iraq from combat to training

From now on, she said, as many US troops will remain in the country as the “new mission” requires.

“The essence of the mission is changing. It’s changing from a combat mission to more of a training, assistance, and support mission”, –  Psaki said.

The White House spokeswoman clarified that the change in mission content meant a shift “to a greater focus on training than has been the case over the last few years”.
