Ukraine’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Igor Kuzin has announced that the Ukrainian Ministry of Health is considering the option of combining different vaccines against COVID-19
“The National Technical Group of Experts on Immunization, as the main advisory body of the Ministry of Health, recommended allowing the so-called mixing (blending) of vaccines, but under strict compliance with certain conditions”, – he said in an interview to the online newspaper “Apostrof”.
According to the Ukrainian representative, this means that a second dose of Comirnaty/Pfizer-BioNTech can be administered after the first dose of the mRNA vaccine Moderna, in case there is no possibility to finish vaccination with the same preparation. Also, the doctor pointed out, if a person has had a severe allergic reaction to the first dose of the AstraZeneca vector vaccine, “a second dose of Comirnaty is allowed upon a doctor’s decision.”
The Chief Medical Officer of Health emphasized that such decisions are taken by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health on the basis of international research, recommendations of vaccine manufacturers against coronavirus and analysis of similar experiences of other countries.
