Saakashvili suggests Ukraine to switch to “green hydrogen” instead of natural gas

The head of the executive committee of the National Council of Reforms of Ukraine Mikhail Saakashvili believes that Ukraine should develop its resources after the launch of Nord Stream 2

The head of the executive committee of the National Council of Reforms of Ukraine, former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili suggested that Kiev should develop its own resources after the launch of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

“The fact that Ukraine’s geopolitical importance will diminish after the start of Nord Stream-2″ this is unambiguous. But this should be compensated by the fact that Ukraine has to develop its own resources, including green hydrogen”, –  Saakashvili said on Monday night on Ukraine 24 TV channel.

According to him, Russia “wants to block the Black Sea to Ukraine for this very reason – because the main deposits of green hydrogen are in the south”. At the same time, Saakashvili expressed the opinion that guarantees to preserve transit through Ukrainian territory after Nord Stream 2 is launched “cannot be trusted”. Kiev believes that Ukraine could lose the transit of Russian gas to Europe after the launch of Nord Stream 2 and the termination of the existing contract with Gazprom at the end of 2024, which could lead to a threat to the country’s security.
