Chinese foreign minister warns US against interfering in Xinjiang and Hong Kong issues

As Wang Yi said, “The United States has no right to encroach on China’s sovereignty”

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned Washington against further meddling in the affairs of Hong Kong, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and other Chinese domestic political issues during talks with US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman on Monday. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

“The United States has no right to encroach on China’s sovereignty”, –  China’s Foreign Ministry quoted Wang Yi as saying. – “The issues of Hong Kong, Xinjiang as well as Tibet have never had anything to do with human rights and democracy.”

The Chinese minister said the Chinese authorities would not tolerate anyone trying to jeopardise China’s national interests under plausible pretexts.

“I am not talking about Taiwan, this problem of problems. Even though the island and the PRC mainland are not yet united, they constitute one China”, – Wang Yi added.

“If supporters of Taiwan’s ‘independence’ dare to challenge us, China has the right to take all possible measures to put an end to it”, –  the PRC foreign minister concluded.

Earlier on Monday, US State Department press chief Ned Price said Wendy Sherman and the Chinese foreign minister held “frank talks” during a visit to China, demonstrating the importance of keeping communication channels between the two countries open.
