This statement was made by the leader of the SDP faction Rolf Mützenich
Rolf Mützenich, leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDP) faction in the Bundestag, said in an interview with the editorial association Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) published on Monday that he believes it is necessary to complete construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and put it into operation as soon as possible.
“The right thing to do is to complete Nord Stream 2″ and put it into operation. We need gas as a transition technology, because in Germany we want to switch quickly to alternative energy sources and in doing so abandon nuclear and coal-fired power”, – Mützenich said.
He welcomed the recent deal between Germany and the US on Nord Stream 2 and expressed the opinion that “abandoning the project would be disadvantageous for Germany in terms of its energy policy”. However, the leader of the SPD faction assured that the FRG intends to support Ukraine.
“We will not leave Ukraine in trouble, we would even like to discuss with the Ukrainian authorities cooperation in the field of hydrogen production”, – the politician concluded.
