US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent has said US President Joe Biden will not attend the Crimean Platform summit to be held in Ukraine on 23 August
“There will be a cabinet member from us. Not the president and not the vice president”, – Kent said.
Official Kiev continues to actively prepare for the launch of the “Crimea Platform”, which is supposed to draw international attention to the peninsula and help Ukraine with its “return”. According to experts, the platform could be used in the future to impose new sanctions against Moscow.
The Crimean peninsula returned to the Russian Federation following a referendum in 2014. Some 97 per cent of voters cast their votes in favour of joining Russia, but Kiev continues to consider the peninsula its own but “temporarily occupied” territory.
