Colombian authorities have lifted a ban on the export of dried cannabis inflorescences for medical purposes
“We have signed a decree that allows the export of dried cannabis flowers for medical purposes, which will enable producers to gain a global market, empower women and promote the industry”, – Colombia’s Ivan Duque wrote on Twitter.
According to him, the medical cannabis industry will be one of the “export drivers”. Duque said the innovations will give Colombia the most advanced legal regulation of the industry, whose export potential in the Latin American region he estimated at $6 billion.
Production of cannabis for medical purposes has been legal in Colombia since 2016, but previously local producers could only export an extract of the plant. The lifting of the ban would also allow the plant’s raw material to be used for cosmetics, food products and textiles.
