US President Joe Biden has authorized the allocation of up to $100 million for the evacuation of citizens of that country, who assisted American troops in various ways, from Afghanistan
This is stated in the notification sent by the American leader to the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
As noted in the document, the text of which was made public by the White House press service, the matter concerns the expenditure under the state fund for emergency assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons. The US government has been authorized to allocate “up to $100 million” for this purpose, the memorandum said. It explains that these funds will be provided in connection with “the situation in Afghanistan”, including to meet the needs caused by the application of citizens of that country for special US immigrant visas.
According to the US State Department, some 2,500 Afghans are currently eligible to apply for special US immigrant visas.
