Biden and Ghani say Taliban offensive at odds with their declarations of peace

US and Afghan presidents Joe Biden and Ashraf Ghani held a telephone conversation on Friday during which they agreed, among other things, that the current offensive by the radical Taliban in the republic contradicts its representatives’ statements of support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict

“President Biden and President Ghani agreed that the current Taliban offensive directly contradicts the movement’s stated support for a negotiated settlement to the conflict”, –  the White House said in a statement.

During the call, Biden also reiterated that the US intends to continue its support for Afghanistan.
