Germany announced a threat to the country’s energy supply in case of abandonment of the “Nord Stream – 2”

Germany depends on guaranteed energy supplies at all times, said Manuela Schwesig, Prime Minister of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

According to TASS, the Prime Minister of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwezig, sharply criticized the statements of the co-chair of the Soyuz 90 / Green party and candidate for chancellor Annalena Berbock for Nord Stream 2, noting that the refusal to implement the project would jeopardize the reliability of the FRG’s power supply.

“An industrialized country like Germany depends on guaranteed supplies [of energy] at all times and that energy is affordable for everyone. Mrs. Berbock overlooks this in her constant attacks against the pipeline”, – the DPA agency quoted Schwezig as saying on Friday.

On Thursday, Berbock said that reaching an agreement with the United States on Nord Stream 2 does not solve Ukraine’s security problems. At the same time, she again spoke out against the commissioning of Nord Stream 2. Schwezig, in turn, pointed out that the Federal Republic of Germany needs a sound energy policy, including the use of advanced technologies in the energy sector and the expansion of renewable sources.

“However, if we want to get out of nuclear and coal energy, then we – at least in the transition period – need gas,” the regional politician emphasized. She recalled that Nord Stream 2 received all permits and will soon be completed. “This is in the interests of Germany. Threats of sanctions after the agreement [between Germany and the United States on the project] are finally a thing of the past”, – concluded Schwezig.
