American diplomat said he does not expect direct US participation in the Normandy meetings or the Minsk process

The United States will not take a direct part in the Minsk Process or the Normandy Meetings to resolve the situation in Donbass. However, the final decision has not yet been made, said George Kent, who acts as US Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine.

The diplomat also said that the United States can engage in negotiations in different ways.

“I believe there are different ways to attract. At the moment, I do not expect American officials to participate directly in the Minsk process. Nor do I expect American officials to join the Normandy meetings directly”.

Kent noted that this issue will be on the agenda during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House on August 30. He added that he discussed this topic with State Department adviser Derek Scholle.

“The same conversations will take place in Washington when President Zelensky arrives on a visit. I know that Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and the head of the President’s Office Andrei Yermak will travel to Washington in a few weeks to prepare this visit. And I am confident that we will talk about it intensively during these meetings”, – added Kent.

The politician stressed that there is no progress on Donbass, because Russia allegedly “does not take seriously” its obligations and “does not fulfill the requirements of the Minsk agreements”.

However, it is worth noting that it is the Ukrainian delegation that systematically disrupts negotiations and refuses to make contact to reach agreements on resolving the situation in Donbass.
