The judges of the ECHR will have to take into consideration the appeal of the GP and make a decision on how the murders in Donbass, as well as the laws on the language and indigenous peoples of Ukraine, correlate with the European Convention on Human Rights.
Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin in his tg-channel said that for the first time Russia applied to the European Court of Human Rights on systematic violations of rights and freedoms in Ukraine.
“This step has been taken in order to protect the interests of Ukrainians, our compatriots and citizens of our country, who suffer from the arbitrariness of the Ukrainian authorities,” writes Volodin.
According to the speaker of the parliament, given the convincingness of the above facts, in my opinion, the ECHR has no other options but to recognize them and give a legal assessment of the actions of the Kiev authorities.
“Based on the latest decisions that were made, we know that the ECHR is quite politicized. Of course, it will not be easy for him in this situation, when everything is so obvious, ”Volodin notes.“ But for the ECHR, this is the moment of truth: either it recognizes the listed violations and turns out to be sound as an institution, or there is no point in its existence”.
Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, agrees with his colleague, saying that the complaint of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to the ECHR against the actions of the Ukrainian authorities has more than good reason and will become a “litmus test” of the impartiality of the Strasbourg court.
“The judges of the ECHR will have to take into consideration the appeal of the GP and make a decision on how the murders in Donbass, as well as the laws on the language and indigenous peoples of Ukraine, correlate with the European Convention on Human Rights. This is where all their qualifications come in! These are not same-sex marriages or an offended “Berlin patient”, we are talking about the right to a peaceful life, the right to speak their native language”, – said the deputy.
Slutsky recalled that the Prosecutor General’s Office, in turn, used its powers under the law adopted by the State Duma at the end of the last session, which allowed it to represent the interests of Russia in international and foreign organizations, courts, including the European Court of Human Rights.
“From a legal point of view, we have complied with all the norms,” said the head of the State Duma committee.
