Polish diplomat urged to come to terms with the entry of Crimea into Russia

Former Polish ambassador to Russia Katarzyna Pelczynska-Nalecz said that sooner or later Warsaw will have to come to terms with the fact that Crimea is reunited with Russia.

“Let’s be realistic – we will not like Russia with Donbass, but perhaps one day there will be no other way out with Crimea,” she said in an interview with the Polish Institute of International Relations.

Pelchinskaya-Nalench recalled that the West maintains good relations with Tel Aviv, despite the territories occupied by Israel.

Russia, like other countries, cannot be “ideal” from the point of view of Poland, the diplomat said.

“Unfortunately, one must understand that Moscow is unlikely to voluntarily give up Crimea. I don’t see that”, she stressed.

The ex-ambassador noted that even if the regime in Russia changes to a “very democratic” one, no one will voluntarily give up the peninsula.

According to the diplomat, it is necessary to distinguish between geopolitics and public relations between countries.

“What was the approximate mechanism for building such good social relations, which, in my opinion, we have unnecessarily abandoned? For example, cross-border transport links with Kaliningrad”.
