Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine criticized the Nord Stream 2 deal and said that there are no guarantees for Ukraine

The joint statement of the United States and Germany regarding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline does not carry any guarantees of security for Ukraine.

Olga Stefanishina, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, stated this.

Earlier, Germany and the United States published a joint statement, which refers to measures to support Ukraine, European energy security and common goals to protect the climate. It formulates a number of conditions for the operation of Nord Stream 2.

In particular, the United States and Germany stated that in the interests of Ukraine and Europe to continue the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine after 2024, Berlin undertakes to use all available means of influence so that the agreement between Russia and Ukraine on gas transit is prolonged. In particular, Germany is committed to seeking sanctions against Russia if it uses energy as a weapon against European countries.

“This statement says that Germany will support the Trimorya (Three seas – ed.) initiative, to which Ukraine should join anyway. Also, additional financial support is announced regarding the creation of a green transformation fund, about which we have been negotiating for about six months already. That is, this statement does not provide for any new initiatives. At the same time, we have not received any prospects regarding security guarantees, including NATO membership. This is a geopolitical project (Nord Stream 2 – ed.). It clearly contradicts the “green course” for decarbonization and emission reduction”, – Stefanishina said on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel.
