Patrick Poppel commented on the current foreign policy situation around Belarus

Austrian expert, geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel assessed the current foreign policy situation around Belarus.

“What is happening in Belarus reminds me very much of what happened in Ukraine a few years ago, where the situation in Donbass and Crimea became a good example of Western intervention in Eastern Europe. Even if Europe criticizes Lukashenka’s actions, we see that all his decisions are very reasonable. He acts as a politician at the head of state should. The actions of the President of Belarus are a practical response to the geopolitical intervention of the US, EU and NATO”.

The expert also believes that Belarus perfectly resists pressure from the West on the issue of sanctions policy.

“The West will try to further isolate Belarus, but due to the alliance with Russia and the development of relations with the countries of Africa and Asia within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, these sanctions will not have much effect. Belarus will find other economic partners”.

The expert summed up that by such actions the West only harms itself, as was the case with the sanctions against the Russian Federation, Europe here is a victim of the geopolitical interests of the United States. The Trans-Atlantic Partnership must end because it is not in the interests of Europe and its people.
