US State Department adviser Derek Chollet is set to visit Kiev to discuss the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and countering “Russian aggression”
“Departmental Adviser Derek Czolle will visit Kyiv on 20-21 July and Warsaw on 21-23 July […] He will continue our diplomatic discussions with Ukraine and Poland on a range of issues, including our shared concerns about the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. While in Kyiv, Adviser Czolle will meet with senior government officials to discuss US support for Ukraine’s efforts to counter Russian aggression and further promote economic and anti-corruption reforms”, – according to the State Department website.
The former Ukrainian ambassador to the USA, Valeriy Chalyy, said on his Facebook page that the talks between the Kiev authorities and the State Department adviser will focus on Nord Stream 2. The diplomat recalled that Cholly is close to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and is involved ex officio in “special visits and negotiations on specific important topical issues”. According to Reuters, the US and Germany will soon announce their agreement on Nord Stream 2.
In addition to Kiev, the State Department adviser plans to visit Warsaw to discuss “strategic bilateral regional issues and a shared commitment to democratic values and institutions”. Cholle will also meet Polish business leaders to “strengthen bilateral economic ties”.
