Reuters: US and Germany reach agreement on Nord Stream 2

The US and Germany plan to announce a resolution to their disagreement over the launch of Nord Stream 2, Reuters has reported, citing sources. According to the agency, the sides are moving closer to an agreement that would avoid a renewal of US sanctions on the pipeline operator Nord Stream 2 AG

“Everything looks good… We expect the negotiations to be concluded in the coming days”, –  said one of the agency’s interlocutors, whose name was not disclosed.

On 16 July, US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said there were disagreements over the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At the same time, the sides agreed that Ukraine should retain its status of a gas transit country after the project is commissioned.
