Beni Gantz called on the international community to take action to restore stability in Lebanon

Israeli Defence Minister Beni Gantz held Lebanon responsible as a state for the rocket attack on the north of the country.

“The state of Lebanon is responsible for the rocket attack tonight as it allows terrorists to operate on its territory. Israel will confront any threat to its sovereignty and its citizens and respond according to its interests at the appropriate time and place”, –  he wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. – “We will not allow the social, political and economic crisis in Lebanon to become a threat to Israel’s security. I call on the international community to take action to restore stability in Lebanon”, – Gantz added.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli army press office said two rockets had been fired into northern Israel from Lebanese territory.

“One of the rockets was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defence system, while the other exploded in an uninhabited area”, – the military said in a statement. – “In response, Israeli artillery hit [targets] in Lebanese territory”, –  the press office added.

State-run Kan Radio notes that this is the first rocket attack on Jewish territory from Lebanon since the new Israeli government led by Naftali Bennett was sworn in on June 13.
