The European Union could disintegrate if the countries of the organisation, like Hungary and Poland, “harm it”. This is a possible scenario, said the former head of the European Council, Donald Tusk
Referring to the dispute between the Polish authorities and the European Union over the work of the Polish disciplinary chamber and compliance with the rulings issued by the European Union court, he admitted that there is a consistent tightening of relations between Poland and the European Union and its institutions.
In his view, this could lead to a weakening of the European Union, undermining the credibility of the organisation and ultimately Poland’s exit from the EU.
“It is not only in Poland, we have Hungary, there is no shortage of tension”, – Tusk added.
In his view, if other countries emerge that insist on hurting the EU, it could mean the end of the organisation.
“Those in power in Poland and Hungary are knowingly or unknowingly working hand in hand with the Kremlin, which makes no secret of the fact that weakening the European Union is its strategic goal”, – Tusk stressed.
Former European Council President said that the collapse will not happen tomorrow and such a scenario could take years, but he recalled a conversation with former British Prime Minister David Cameron, who promised him that the British state would definitely not leave the EU, but six months later Brexit happened.
