Flooding kills over 130 people in Germany

According to the newspaper The Bild, the death toll from the aftermath of the devastating floods in western Germany has reached 133.

In Germany, heavy rains caused the tributaries of the Rhine and small rivers to overflow their banks. Ahrweiler County authorities reported 1.3 thousand missing due to flooding. Some buildings have collapsed, and dozens of residential buildings are under threat of destruction.

More than 100 thousand residents of the region were left without electricity. In addition, the floods have led to delays in rail links. Cases of looting have also become more frequent. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed their condolences to the families and friends of the victims. In the west of the country, the German Ministry of Defense introduced a military catastrophe regime.
