Secretary of State: US will take action against hackers in Russia itself if Moscow fails to do so

Anthony Blinken made this statement at a conference in Washington on new technologies and security issues

TASS reports that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, speaking at a conference in Washington on new technology and security issues, said on Tuesday that the US has made it clear to Russia that it will take action against hackers on Russian soil unless Moscow does so.

“We are working to bring allies together to collectively respond to the malicious activities of others in the cybersphere. This took place after the SolarWinds hack”, –  he noted, noting that 22 countries supported the US version of Russia’s alleged involvement in the attack. – “This is important because when we speak with one voice, we are more effective in deterring future attacks.”

Blinken also said the US was ramping up its diplomatic tools to counter transnational cybercrime.

“In our engagement with Russia, our message is clear: countries harbouring cyber criminals have a responsibility to take action. If they don’t, we will”, –  the secretary of state said.
