Expert named what was behind Sandu’s victory

The victory of the pro-European Action and Solidarity Party (PDS) in the Moldovan parliamentary elections was based on the protest vote with the inflated expectations of the citizens, according to the Executive Director of Expert-Grup, Adrian Lupuchor

He noted that now Maia Sandu, the Moldovan president, has no excuses for his mistakes, as she will have all the power, both legislative and executive, in her hands.

“Therefore, policies, reforms and, above all, tangible results are needed, without delays and excuses. Especially since you have everything at your fingertips: a comfortable majority in parliament, presidential support, a compromised opposition and a huge credit of trust from the electorate and the development partner community”, –  the expert stated.

Lupusor called it phenomenal that after only 5 years of its establishment, the PDS came to power by overcoming a system that seemed unshakable. Especially since their victory was acknowledged by their opponents.

Igor Dodon, leader of the Party of Socialists, assessing the results of the election campaign that ended on 11 July, called it democratic and logical. He congratulated his rivals and wished success to the new pro-European government. Later, Dodon hastened to correct himself, adding that he still considers the winning party to be “temporaries with hangman’s tendencies”. After announcing the departure of the leftist bloc (Communist Party-Socialists) into active opposition, Dodon promised to stop his opponents.

The expert hopes that “those who came to power are firmly on their feet and understand that this electoral success is largely based on a mass protest vote with huge expectations of the new government, an extremely unstable and pretentious vote.”

“We have shown the world a true example of changing power in a democratic and civilised way. What follows is a comprehensive programme of reforms”, –  concluded the political analyst.
