According to the former US president, Afghan women and girls will simply be abandoned
The decision by the current U.S. authorities to withdraw troops from Afghanistan is a mistake. Former US President George W. Bush (in power from 2001-2009) expressed this opinion in an interview with the Deutsche Welle media company published on Wednesday.
“Afghan women and girls will be harmed indescribably. This is a mistake”, – he said. – “They will just be abandoned <…> and it breaks my heart”, – Bush said. He expressed the view that German Chancellor Angela Merkel likely “feels the same way”.
US President Joe Biden on 14 April announced the decision to end the operation in Afghanistan, which has become the longest overseas military campaign in American history. The US began the war in October 2001. Biden announced last week that the military operation in Afghanistan would end on 31 August this year.
