Berlin says progress in talks with US on Nord Stream 2

At the same time, German Foreign Minister Maas did not specify whether a breakthrough could be expected from German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s meeting with US President Joe Biden

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas believes progress has been made in talks with the US on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

“A lot of preliminary work has been done in recent weeks, and I believe our positions have converged on many points”, –  the DPA news agency quoted the minister as saying.

Maas did not specify whether a breakthrough could be expected from German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s meeting with US President Joe Biden.

“The important thing is that we have a goal in front of us and I am also confident that we will achieve it”, –  he said.

The minister also did not give a specific timeline.

“But, of course, it would be great if it happened during the Chancellor’s visit to Washington”, – he was quoted by DPA as saying.
