Johnson & Johnson vaccination risks a rare neurological disorder

Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine has received a new warning from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

The bulletin for the drug included evidence of an increased risk of the rare neurological disorder Guillain-Barré syndrome. It is a rare condition in which a person’s immune system attacks their own peripheral nerves. It most often affects adult men. In most cases, the patient makes a full recovery.

The directorate believes that the chances of getting the syndrome after vaccination are very low, but all vaccinated people are advised to consult a doctor in case of symptoms after vaccination. These include weakness, tingling and difficulty walking.

The FDA has recorded 95 cases where J&J vaccination has resulted in serious consequences. Among them, one was fatal. Men aged 50 years and over are most often affected.
