The grounds for the ruling were the lawyer’s false allegations of fraud in the country’s presidential election
A D.C. metropolitan court on Wednesday suspended the licence to practice law of Rudolph Giuliani, former lawyer of former US President Donald Trump. This was reported by Axios, citing the court’s decision.
The ruling explains that the lawyer’s licence will be revoked pending the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings, which a court in New York began in June this year. The basis for the ruling was Giuliani’s “blatantly false and misleading”a allegations of fraud in the November 2020 US presidential election. The New York court found that Trump’s lawyer’s remarks were fraught with threats to the interests of the American public.
Giuliani accused him and the US Democratic Party of employing a scheme of various frauds after the election, which was won by Joe Biden. The lawyer criticised the US press for being biased against Trump and the Republicans.
The US presidential election was held on 3 November 2020. On 14 December of the same year, the electoral college approved the results of the vote, according to which Democrat Biden won. His inauguration took place on 20 January. Trump has long refused to concede defeat and has applied to the courts for a recount in several states. However, his lawyers were unsuccessful and their claims were rejected by the courts.
