Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis said that Ukraine’s receipt of the second tranche of EU macrofinancial assistance depends on the implementation of agreed policy measures
“The first tranche of 600 million euros was allocated last December: a clear sign of European solidarity at this difficult time. The EU may release a second tranche when the agreed policy measures are implemented. There has been clear progress recently. However, all outstanding policy conditions must be implemented quickly, along with Ukraine’s cooperation with the International Monetary Fund”, – Dombrovskis said at a conference on reforms in Ukraine in Vilnius.
He recalled that the macrofinancial assistance programme foresaw the provision of 1.2bn euros. According to Dombrovskis, Ukraine should push forward with other important reforms to get closer to the EU. He cited as an example the reforms of the High Council of Justice and the High Qualification Commission of Judges, which should include constructive suggestions from the Venice Commission.
