Democracy is not the exclusive privilege of a narrow circle, Chinese president stressed
Democracy should be judged by the people of a country, not a small circle of third parties. Chinese President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said on Tuesday while addressing an online summit of the CPC and parties of other countries.
“There are different ways. But people all over the world have the right to choose their own development path and institutional model”, – the head of state said. – “Democracy is the right of all peoples, not the exclusive privilege of a narrow circle. There are many ways of implementing democracy in the world, not just one stereotype. Whether or not a country is democratic should be decided by its people themselves, not by a narrow circle of others”, – Xi Jinping stressed.
“In order to move towards building a democracy that meets a country’s national conditions, we must strengthen contacts, mutual learning and communication mechanisms, we need to take full account of public opinion and improve our governance capabilities. In this way, our capacity and confidence in our work to improve people’s well-being will always be enhanced”, – summed up the Chinese President.
The first summit of the Communist Party of China and political parties of other countries is being held by videoconference, but some of the events will be held offline in Beijing, Shanghai, and in Chinese cities such as Yan’an (Shaanxi province), Shenzhen (Guangdong), Ningde (Fujian) and Anji (Zhejiang). The theme of this year’s summit is “For the Happiness of the People: the Responsibility of Political Parties”. The Russian Federation is represented there by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and Chairman of the United Russia party.
Leaders of 21 political parties will speak at the event. Some 500 other leaders of political parties from more than 160 countries and regions of the world are also taking part in the summit, as well as more than 10,000 representatives of various political associations.
