Contacts between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping may take place in the not too distant future. Kurt Campbell, coordinator for Indo-Pacific affairs at the White House National Security Council, said this on Tuesday at a conference organised by the Asia Society.
“I think both leaders will appreciate the opportunities available. I expect any contact between them to take place in the not too distant future”, – he said.
Campbell, however, did not respond to a question on whether such contact could take place at the G20 summit in Rome, which is scheduled for 30-31 October.
Previous US President Donald Trump met with Xi Jinping several times on the margins of major international events. However, there have been no face-to-face contacts between Biden and the Chinese leader so far, although the two heads of state have spoken by phone.
