State Department intends to punish those who disrupted LGBT parade in Georgia

More than 50 media workers were reportedly injured during the Dignity March in Georgia

The US State Department has condemned the attacks on journalists as well as the organisers of the rally in support of the LGBT community in Tbilisi. Washington has called on Georgian authorities to investigate “incidents of violence against LGBT people”.

“We condemn the brutal attacks that took place on July 5 in Georgia against civil activists, members of the LGBT community and journalists”, –  US State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement on Twitter.

Price also expressed his belief that Georgian authorities and law enforcement agencies “have a duty to protect the constitutional rights to freedom of speech and assembly. And, of course, to punish those, who have any kind of relation to the “violent actions”.
