According to Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, the most successful vaccination programme in the EU was implemented in Hungary and the cooperation with Russia played a major role in it
Speaking at the Innoprom international industrial forum in Yekaterinburg, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó said that a vaccine production plant, which will also produce the Russian drug Sputnik V, is scheduled to open in Debrecen, Hungary, at the end of 2022.
“Strategic cooperation is also underway in the area that a vaccine production plant will be opened in Debrecen at the end of next year and we intend to produce Sputnik V there, given the fact that it is used in 65 countries worldwide and there is likely to be a large demand for this vaccine in the future”, – said Szijjártó.
According to him, the most successful programme in the EU has been implemented in Hungary, and pragmatic cooperation with Russia has played a major role in this.
“I want to make it clear that we would not have been able to vaccinate so many people so quickly if we had not procured the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia”, – he said, noting that 1 million Hungarian citizens were vaccinated thanks to this.
To recall, Hungary in November 2020 became the first EU country to receive Sputnik V vaccine samples for research. In February 2021, the Russian product was finally approved by the Hungarian relevant health authority, after which it was used to vaccinate the population.
