Kiev is already negotiating with the US State Department for Washington to take part in talks on Donbass. Journalist Vladimir Mamontov commented on the situation specifically for News Front
The expert noted that the first thing to do is to decide whether the United States is needed at all as a party to the dialogue. As of today, officially they do not take part in the settlement of the situation in Donbass.
“There are no Americans in the Minsk agreements. They were not involved in anything. And why they should take part is not easy to answer from a formal point of view”, – says Mamontov.
But it is much easier to explain it from an informal point of view. Ukraine is governed by Washington. If the U.S. enters into negotiations, it may “lock horns” and demand unilateral implementation of all agreements reached.
Mamontov drew attention to the significance of the agreements reached on the issue of Donbass. If the United States understands it, it is possible to have a dialogue with them.
“If they take a constructive position, why don’t we all discuss it together. Our position is as follows: the Minsk agreements were a complicated solution and they closed a flammable situation”, – the journalist said.
He stressed that the agreements should be implemented and the future should be based on this. If the Americans have decided to adhere to this point of view, then it is possible to work with them.
“We have never refused to cooperate constructively with anyone”, – Mamontov concluded.
It was recently reported that the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, is discussing US participation in the talks on Donbass with Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland.
