U.S. says it is unsure of Russia’s involvement in recent cyberattack

If it turns out that the Russian government was nevertheless involved in the attacks, “the US will respond,” US President Joe Biden stressed

The United States believes, based on initial findings, that Russian authorities were not involved in the recent cyber ransomware attack that targeted at least 20 companies. US President Joe Biden told reporters during a trip to Michigan on Saturday, Bloomberg reported. The US leader stressed that Washington was not yet sure who was behind the incident.

“We’re not sure it’s the Russians. <…> I was informed when I was on the plane. The initial view is that it was not the Russian government, but we are not sure yet”, –  Biden said.

The president said he had also instructed intelligence agencies to look into what happened, stressing that the US would respond if it turned out that Russia was involved in the cyber attack. “I have instructed the intelligence community to provide me with a thorough analysis of what happened. I will be better informed tomorrow. If [it turns out] that [Russia] knew or [it was] a consequence of [Russia’s] actions, I have told [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, we will respond,” he said, clarifying that he had not contacted his Russian counterpart in connection with the cyberattack.

“I have deployed all government resources to help respond if necessary”, –  Biden added.
