Kremlin explains why a meeting with Zelensky is not possible yet

The press secretary of the Russian leader, Dmitriy Peskov, has explained why a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is not yet possible

He said that the main complicating factor was Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements. Furthermore, the talks between the two heads of state are pointless as long as Ukraine is ruled from outside.

A separate problem remains the political pressure exerted on the opposition. The incumbent authorities are trying to get rid of rivals.

“President Zelensky from the very beginning looked like a very modern democratic president who is bringing order and democracy to his country, and of course this mindset clearly does not correlate with absolutely unprecedented pressure on political opponents, with the desire to get rid of their successful political opponents by opening a criminal case”, – Peskov said.

Putin’s press secretary earlier said that a meeting with Zelensky was out of the question for now. Against the background of his statement that Russians and Ukrainians are not one people, a possible summit has become even less likely.
