Construction of the linear part of Balkan Stream, which is a continuation of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, has been completed. This was announced by Dusan Bajatovic, General Director of Srbijagas
“The entire linear part from the Turkish coast through the territory of Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia and today here, at the entrance to Hungary, is completed. The capacity of gas, which is 15.75 billion cubic meters at the outlet of the Black Sea, can be used virtually throughout Central Europe”, – said Bajatovic.
In January 2021, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic officially launched the Balkan Stream gas pipeline in his country. According to him, the price of gas from the new pipeline will be $155 per 1,000 cubic meters, while earlier the same amount of gas would cost Belgrade $240.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that Budapest will start buying gas through the Serbian direction by the end of this year. Earlier, Gazprom and Hungarian authorities concluded a preliminary agreement on gas supplies for 1 year.
The Serbian section of the pipeline is a continuation of one of the two branches of the Turkish Stream, which was opened on 8 January 2020. It should carry Russian gas to Turkey and then to Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary. The section is 403km long and has a design capacity of 13.9bn cubic metres per year.
