The meeting will take place on July 7-8 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan.
As reported by TASS, on Saturday the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan disseminated information that the UN Secretary General’s special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen confirmed his participation in the international high-level meeting on Syria in the Astana format, which will be held on July 7-8 in Nur- Sultan.
“The UN Secretary General’s special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, has confirmed his participation in the upcoming meeting,” the press service said in a response.
On July 7-8, Nur-Sultan will host the 16th international high-level meeting on Syria in the Astana format. It is planned to involve delegations of the guarantor countries (Iran, Russia and Turkey), the Syrian government and the Syrian armed opposition. High representatives of the UN, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq will take part in the event as observers. The negotiators will discuss the situation in Syria, international humanitarian assistance to this country, the prospects for the resumption of the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva, confidence-building measures, including the exchange of prisoners, the release of hostages and the search for the missing.
