It is reported that Latvia has changed its legal framework for monitoring the commercial flows of electricity
This was stated in the Ministry of Economy of Latvia.
It is indicated that the head of this authority Janis Vitenbergs and Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivis had a meeting today. During the meeting, they confirmed a common position of the two countries not to buy electricity from Belarus.
The report says the ministers agreed that the two countries have made a clear commitment not to buy electricity from Belarus, and agreed that any nuclear power plant, including Astravets Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), must meet all safety standards.
To meet this obligation, Latvia has changed its legal framework, which provides for procedures to monitor commercial electricity flows to ensure that Belarusian electricity does not enter the Baltic market. National system operators and experts will be invited to do so.
