As noted by the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, this would lead to a rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing, which cannot meet the interests of the EU
Europe cannot be interested in the destruction of economic relations with Russia, because this will lead to a rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing. This assessment was made on Thursday in Warsaw by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas at a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau.
“I believe that a difficult situation would have developed for us in Europe if economic relations with Russia were impossible”, – he said. According to him, this “can lead to the fact that Russia and China will become closer and closer”, which in turn cannot meet the interests of the EU.
Maas believes that such a strategy for the EU “would not only be wrong, but also dangerous, including for Europe’s security interests.” The minister explained that with the rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing, the “largest economic” bloc in the world could emerge. Therefore, Berlin considers it a “wrong strategy” to sever economic ties with the Russian Federation, added the head of the German Foreign Ministry.
